To stay ahead of the curve, we continue to make significant investments in our own digital transformation. Under Lisa Heneghan, our new Global Chief Digital Officer, we are entering year four of our multi-year US$5 billion investment focused on technology, people and innovation. This investment helps both accelerate our own digital transformation and strengthens the support we offer clients on their digital journeys. Our own transformation leverages our Powered Enterprise solutions to accelerate our front-, middle- and back-office transformation programs.

Helping to drive the future of public transit with open data
When the UK Department of Transport wanted to tap into the unrealized potential of England's bus services by providing passengers with information on services, fares and real-time locations, it turned to KPMG in the UK for help.
In the first project of its kind in the UK, KPMG in the UK, with its subcontractor ITO World Ltd., developed a national unified open data platform for England’s bus network, Bus Open Data Services (BODS).
BODS pulls together data from more than 400 bus operators so transit users can view timetables, fares and bus location data in one place.
KPMG professionals led the delivery of the entire project — from design and testing to deployment and implementation — all while meeting strict UK government digital service standards and adhering to legislative and regulatory requirements.
BODS improves bus users’ travel information by providing data for journey planning software providers, innovators and town planners, leading to innovations within the digital transport sector. The platform could enable mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) journey planning, allowing improved modelling across different types of public transport. Also, the insights generated from the data can help policymakers determine how to increase public transport use and reduce carbon emissions.

Helping Māori businesses thrive through digital transformation
Since 2020, the New Zealand government has focused on achieving greater diversity in its suppliers, requiring all government agencies to allocate a minimum of 5 percent of their contracts to Māori businesses. These Māori businesses play a vital role in helping lift Māori aspirations and dreams of a better life for their communities, while reinforcing New Zealand’s economic security.
This gave Te Puni Kōkiri, the government’s principal policy advisor on Māori well-being and development, a transformational opportunity to support the overall capabilities of Māori businesses and help them become procurement ready.
Te Puni Kōkiri turned to KPMG in New Zealand because of the firm’s deep expertise in government and Te Ao Māori (the Māori world view), as well as its digital services and advanced Microsoft capabilities. The firm created a tailored business assessment and grant management digital solution for Te Puni Kōkiri called “Te Tomokanga” — a gateway to transforming, uplifting and creating better outcomes for all.
The firm used KPMG Powered Grants and Microsoft Power Platform to develop Te Tomokanga. The platform helps Te Puni Kōkiri’s regional advisors and decision makers assess the needs of Māori businesses and provide support and funding so they can participate in the government’s complex procurement environment.
With KPMG professionals’ expertise and the Microsoft Business Applications suite of tools, Te Puni Kōkiri transformed its previously time- and labor-intensive processes into a fit-for-purpose digital solution that allows it to focus on helping create better outcomes for Aotearoa (New Zealand).
