On 14 July 2021, the European Commission has launched the details of a new measure packaged as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (the ‘Mechanism’) for regulating greenhouse gas emissions embedded in certain goods, upon their importation into the customs territory of the Union, with the purpose of preventing the risk of carbon leakage.
