Further to our recent update regarding the resumption of entry visas for employment permit holders and essential family reunification (see GMS Flash Alert 2021-146, 24 May 2021), Ireland’s Immigration Service Delivery has announced1 that it will commence processing all long-stay visa and pre-clearance applications, effective immediately.

WHY THIS MATTERS

This update will affect visa-required nationals (from these countries2) and their dependents seeking to make either of these applications:

  • any long-stay ‘D’ visa applications; and
  • pre-clearance scheme applications (such as non-European Economic Area (EEA) national family members of U.K. nationals and de facto partners).

Please note that short-stay visas remain suspended for the time being, except for visa-required nationals who fall into the “priority/emergency group” categories, per guidance issued by the Immigration Service Delivery.  These categories include health-care workers, frontier workers, posted workers amongst other categories.

KPMG NOTE

Individuals and clients should be aware of these changes as non-EEA nationals that are seeking to make long-stay ‘D’ visa applications or pre-clearance scheme applications will now be able to proceed with their visa applications for travel to Ireland.

For advice on this changing situation, please contact your local qualified immigration counsel or the Corporate Immigration and Employment Law Team with KPMG in Ireland.
