David joined KPMG in Edinburgh in 1984 and is currently UK head of retail at KPMG, responsible for leading and developing the firm's retail practice. After qualifying as a CA in 1987, he transferred into an advisory role as one of the founders of KPMG’s corporate finance business. Since that time, David has advised several quoted and private companies on divestitures, acquisitions and fund raisings. Between 1990 and 1992, David spent two years on secondment to the Takeover Panel in London, the UK’s authority which regulates the conduct of all public company takeovers. He has worked in Scotland and in London and also spent two years on the Board of KPMG’s Corporate Finance business in the US. Transactional experience includes advising the Board of JJB Sports plc on it's £65m financing package from Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. and Adidas; the sales of Peacocks, Blacks Leisure plc, Card Factory, Dreams, Tiso, Independent Pharmacy Care Centres, Helly Hansen, Worldmark, Britax Childcare, Jane Norman and Londis; and the acquisitions of Arla UK, Whyte & Mackay, Center Parcs and Fosters. David also chairs the KPMG-IPSOS Retail Think Tank and works closely with the British Retail Consortium (BRC) in a number of areas including the analysis, sponsorship and administration of the BRC-KPMG Retail Sales Monitor. David is regularly quoted in the trade and national media on retail sales trends and other key issues affecting the sector.
